Sheilas’ Wheels car insurance launched the ‘Make Me A Sheila Star’ competition on 1 February 2007 to find guest stars for the next TV ad. We received over 11,500 entries from women of all shapes and sizes who are real fans of Sheilas’ Wheels - including one 98 year-old woman, who was unfortunately over our age limit, and 58 entries from men!
All that the applicants needed to do was upload or post in a photo of themselves and complete the following line: "Make me a Sheila star because…" Find out how thirty women won the "Make Me A Sheila Star" competition and became real Sheilas for the day.
Sheilas’ Wheels held an audition day on 23 March 2007. Fifty willing ‘Sheila wannabes’ had to prove that they had the Sheila-factor in true X-Factor style, with screen tests and group dance routines. The panel of judges included Chris Wilkins and Sian Vickers - the husband and wife team who dreamed up the Sheilas’ Wheels concept and invented the Smash Martians.
